Gobbler Fever

Sometimes it will freeze every muscle in your body.  Other times it will make you shake uncontrollably.  Hunters fear it.  Outsiders can’t understand it.  And if you are new to turkey hunting you will eventually succumb to its symptoms.  I’m talking about Gobbler Fever.

Something You Have to Try This Turkey Season: Reap a Wild One

Half way across the river water rose above my belly button.  I had never turkey hunted in chest waders, however I was glad Rod talked me into going home and grabbing them.  My original plan was to cross in muck boots, and that would have ended badly.  For now I was dry and heading to the opposite bank…bow in one hand and my reaping decoy in the other.

“What do you mean you can’t find your glove!?!  It was there last night!” Rod exclaims.

Two sleepy eyed boys stumble around looking for the missing item.  Eventually it is found and the trio moves on to the candy drawer for supplies.

As I merged onto the 101 I worked my way over to the HOV lane.  Eventually all the traffic cleared, so I shifted the Road King into 6th gear and hit the throttle hard.  The ol’ girl took off like a banshee and when I looked down at my speedometer I was pushing 95 mph.  I remember thinking “no need to hurry” as I coasted down to a more reasonable speed.  I didn’t have anywhere to be for the next two days.

Seven Tips to Help You Plan Your Next Hunting Trip

A top priority of mine is to go on at least one hunting trip every year.  Typically, I go out west to chase elk, mule deer or antelope.  Hunting trips are what keep me motivated throughout the year because I know it is going to be an adventure.  I know I will improve my hunting skills.  I know I will have fun.  And I know I will create stories that I can tell for years to come.

Coyote Power

During the 1850’s and 1860’s the Navajos found themselves at war with US frontier troops. In 1863 Kit Carson invaded the Navajo’s homeland and by 1864 8,000 Navajos surrendered.  They were condemned to a 300 mile march to the Bosque Redondo prison camp in eastern New Mexico.  Here they sat under constant guard and contemplated how they could return to their homeland.
